Bourbon Street Falls Tonight?

The Las Vegas Advisor is reporting that Bourbon Street is being imploded tonight at 2 a.m. Not much advance notice from owner Harrahs, but I’m sure we’ll all be seeing video on the news and all over the Web tomorrow.

Update: The Bourbon Street implosion blurb has disappeared from the LVA site, so maybe it’s not happening tonight after all.

  1. That sucks. I’m tempted to go watch it, but I have a love/hate relationship with Harrah’s so who knows. Would be the first Strip area implosion I’ve missed in some time. Aladdin was the best, Sands a close second.

The place was a dive, but always an empty parking garage just two minutes from Barbary Coast, friendly bartenders serving strong and cheap drinks, and some of the best food deals on (basically) The Strip.

I recently sold my house here, and and hanging in an apartment while I 1. Wait for the bubble to burst (it has already started here … no matter what the rah-rah articles in the R-J say) and 2. I’m deciding if I want to live near The Strip again, or downtown. I love the high end stuff, but there is something to be said for the second tier casinos with their fun atmosphere, low minimums, and cheap food and drinks.

Hey … we have Casino Royale for now.

BTW, this just came across my desk:

MEDIA ALERT * MEDIA ALERT * MEDIA ALERT

The Kabuki Lounge at the Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino has closed.

Please remove all Kabuki Lounge references.

Thank you for keeping our listing current.

    That just sucks too.

  2. That really does suck. I wonder what they’re planning to do with the Kabuki Lounge space. It was always a dependable location for some cheeseball Vegas lounge acts.

  3. Michele’s response to me when I read her the latest comment from James G:

“You know how I know you have a gambling problem? Because you’re going to wager on the James vs. James rumble.”

  4. The blurb on the Advisor site about Bourbon Street coming down has disappeared. Not sure whether that means the implosion is off or they received inaccurate information.

  5. You know how I know I have a gambling problem ? I am taking bets on the total number of lead shot pellets pumped into that 78 year old dude that Dick Cheney tried to rub out.

  6. Drove by it today, heading west toward The Strip. My mind could tell that something was missing from the picture, but implosions do that to you. I didn’t go see this one live, but if you get a chance to see an implosion, do so.

It is better than seeing David Copperfield (who’s who is truly mind-blowing). One minute, this huge building is right in front of you, and the next minute, nothing but thin air in it’s place.

KVVU also had a good wrap-up of the coverage:

BTW, for you Vegas junkies: KVBC
( http://www.kvbc.com ) is one of the first TV stations in the nation to provide on-demand streaming video of their entire newscasts. 2-3 hours after each newscast, you can view the entire newscast … ever single segment … online and on-demand.

On the flip side … it might kill the buzz. You can only watch news of so many apartment fires, shootings in North Town, and “everyday news” that has nothing to do with the fantasy world of The Strip. So watch at your own discretion.

  7. One of my favorite Simpsons gags was when Bart and Homer were watching When Buildings Collapse on Non-Stop Fox.

“The best part was when the building fell down!”
