  1. Interesting info Scott, but based on your comment Las Vegas Advisor spoke with Gary Thompson, spokesman for Harrah’s. He said the buffet closure is permanent.

  2. Hey, I work at Bally’s and here’s the scoop about the buffet- it IS still open, BUT only if you’re a Bally’s employee! The EDR (employee dining room) downstairs at Bally’s (just to the right after going down the escalator toward the sports book) is being renovated. So we Bally’s employees wouldn’t starve, they “closed” the buffet (to the public) and it’s the temporary EDR. From what I hear, the buffet will be closed until the March 13 or so…

  3. if only they had burned down the montecito; ratings would have gone up and the show would still be on the air.

the tourism board could have used either ‘fire’ or ‘I’m On Fire’

Last week during the Nationwide Series NASCAR race at the Las Vegas Speedway, Springsteen music was used several time before commercial breaks. Viva Las Vegas and several others….Vegas and Springsteen all together; what could be better.

  4. CORRECTION TO THIS COMMENT POSTED EARLIER “What do mean The Montecito isn’t real? When they had the rooftop fire at a major strip casino in January it was reported on some tv stations ( not las vegas ) that “The Montecito Casino Hotel” had dramatic fire in Las Vegas and the hotel propery was evacuated.”

A fire at “The Montecito” wasn’t actually reported anywhere on TV but an out of town reporter was speaking to Steve Friess ( The Strip Podcast ) and asked Steve if The Montecito was on fire.

    John

  5. I can’t believe you didn’t report on the new upstairs patio bar that over looks Fremont Street at Golden Nugget.
Guess I will have to do that one for you.
Also, I know how much you love Plaza so thought you would have gone to the restaurant that used to be a pool shaped like a martini glass and now is a sport bar. That is a change since you were her last.

  6. Great show kids. I’ve completely caught up now, having started back again on show 127.

Sent a nasty gram to NBC re: Las Vegas. I know it was pretty dumb, but some of us aren’t as affluent as you two and need a Vegas TV fix when no trip is on the horizon.

Good news on the closing of the Bally’s buffet. I’ll be less likely to stumble up the escalator, trying to find my room, if I stay at Bally’s again.

  7. Would I redeem myself if I made the same joke about Rhett Miller’s Cingular Girl, or did I rip that off from you too?

  8. I have to wonder about Sahara. In this economic environment, tearing down 200 rooms will reduce cash flow. Putting up a 1,000 room tower is probably a good idea. But, given no timeline has been released, I have to wonder if this will go the way of Tropicana’s much-announced plans followed up with no action. Or, perhaps they will follow the Planet Ho model which is to hire a coupla guys to remodel the place over the next 20 years or so. Beware if you see someone start painting the outside blue.

  9. Dave: Hasn’t Bruce already sold that song to a phone company? “Come on up for Verizon.”

  11. Seems like some people are trying to save Las Vegas ( the show ) by sending baby booties to NBC to try and make a point. So far 1,740 booties sent – worth nearly $2k. Thats a lot of booty.

Here is the link if anyone is so inclined.

  12. Yep we were rather impressed with the new look Luxor as well, aiming to try and take on Planet Hollywood with a ‘cool’ vibe ( currently our favourite Casino out there – especially after trying Earl of Sandwich for the first time, yum! ).

Bally’s buffet closing took us by suprise as we were planning to eat there one day ( nobody seemed to know what was happening at the time as we were asking around if it was closed full time or just for a lunch changeover ). So as we had not eaten at Ceasers Buffet decided to cross the strip and try there. Boy is that Buffet well hidden. Following employee directions which led us out by the pool, around Snackus Maximum and a tour pretty much around the whole casino before doubling back on ourselves and finding the Buffet right where we started !

Finally quick mention that we went to see Howie Mandell at MGM one night. The warm up guy spent a good few minutes joking about the Sigma Derby machine debating what was worse – shouting at plastic horses running around the track or watching people shouting at the plastic horses running around the track.

Tim/Michele no mention of the shoe expo which was on during your trip ?

  13. Loved the report, but I am so jealous. We are going on the 3rd of May and will try to retrace your steps.

Can’t beleive you didn’t make it to the Wynn.

BTW ricin was in a CSI episode. The killer kilied herself by chewing on a pen she used to crush the poison beans.

    Dan

  14. I just heard that Springsteen has been hired to be the new pitchman for the Vegas Visitor and Convention Bureau.

“Come on up for the ricin.”

I am offended that neither of you came up with that before I did.

  15. also a question for you guys-

I played a table game called sickbo at nyny and i won 500 bucks while i was completely wasted and i dont even know how to play it, i was just betting on things. I cant find any info online about it.

you guys ever heard of this game?

  16. I just was at the Criss Angel Store last weekend, and it has guess what- lots of criss angel crap. My girlfriend is a fan of his so i picked her up some trinkets. Earrings with his silly logo in them, a water bottle with his silly logo on it, and a little one inch button.

It basically has all manner of tshirts, posters, cheap jewelry all fit for any hot topic shopping/mindfreaking teenager. Essentially if its black and you can put criss angel’s logo on it, they probably have it. also, someone should inform my gf that she is not a hot topic shopping teenager.

On a side note Angel’s brother was actually there while i was there and he shook my hand and patted me on the back as I walked by on my way out of the store. It should be additionally noted I did not stick out my hand to shake, and he actually did this while talking to some other people.

  17. I don’t see how they could cancel Las Vegas…it really saved NBC during the writers strike because they didn’t appear to have any. little know fact; the whole 5 years was ad libbed

I always stay at the Montecito during my imaginary vegas vacations.

  18. I had heard that the reason the NY NY Statue of Liberty fountains were empty was for water conservation purposes, but I can’t substantiate that, and I think it seems unlikel
