According to today’s update, three of the lines will serve as a multi-leg zip line course. The fourth line (starting at the Excalibur entrance) will function separately.

Here’s the weird part… the company that will run the thing, Ziptrek, plans to have guides (zip line sherpas?) lead zippers through the course, delivering educational lectures about “sustainability and four conditions which must exist in a sustainable society” during the two hours it will take to complete the course. People will be clamoring to get on the zip lines just to escape from the hippie buzzkill. How long before they drop the unnecessary lectures?

I thoroughly enjoyed Red Rock Resort’s accommodations. The bed was super comfortable and had tons of pillows, which I always appreciate. The room had plenty of surface space for working and didn’t feel the least bit cramped. The design reminded me of Golden Nugget’s Rush Tower rooms, which I also really liked. I highly recommend Red Rock. If you’re not opposed to staying off-Strip (way way off-Strip), give it a shot.

When Five Hundy by Midnight was retired to the Trippies Hall of Fame for Best Vegas Podcast, it never really dawned on us that Five Hundy would pop up in another category.

With Las Vegas visitors less willing or able to throw around wads of cash for umm… “veteran” acts, entertainment strategies may very well change over the next couple years. If the Hard Rock fails to fill The Joint for Santana’s residency and Caesars’ deals with Bette Midler and Cher don’t live up to expectations, we could see a shift away from these long-term showroom stints.

How will The Strip adapt? Wynncore’s four-show booking of Beyonce could be the beginning of a new trend—current touring arena acts playing a short stretch of shows in a small, intimate setting. Time will tell.

We’ve been doubtful of any major changes at New Frontier under Phil Ruffin’s ownership, no matter how many plans he announces. This afternoon, listener Andrea sent us this link to an interesting rumor about a possible New Frontier sale. I don’t see the Plaza name coming to the Strip, given an existing Plaza downtown, but if New Frontier changes hands, its days will be limited.

Have you ever dreamed of being a giant who towers over all of your favorite Las Vegas landmarks as you walk down the Strip? Me neither, but if I had, I’d get my ass to Legoland to see the new Las Vegas Miniland exhibit.

Las Vegas Business Press ran an interesting profile of South Point owner Michael Gaughan, one of the last of the old school Las Vegas casino owners. It sounds as though he hates the new name of the former Barbary Coast like the rest of us. Not surprising.
