  1. Thanks for another great podcast.

Mentioned in passing video games from the phone in. Well, one I can definatly recommend is Vegas – Make It Big. Really old game, so you could probably pick it up for a couple of dollars. Basically a Vegas sim, building your casino using various themes. Eat your heart out Steve Wynn. Always gets me in the mood for another Vegas trip.
Agree with the Hard Rock game, though the cd does make an exceptionaly good coaster.

Can confirm the Orleans shuttle is still going to Barbary as per your information. Got a rather unfriendly email back from the Coast team, basically saying as far as they are aware the shuttle is to continue and if it is to be stopped then the website would mention it.

Congrats on your Anniversary ( Vegas & Marriage ).

Looking forward to a Spamalot review.

  2. Happy Anniversary!

Ideas for nicknames for Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall & Saloon:
    1) FBC (for Former Barbary Coast)
    2) BGHAS (For Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall and Saloon. Pronounced “bigass” in English… Michele may know the correct German pronunciation)
    3) Linda Cardellini (only because it sounds so much better than the new name)

  3. Well how did Judge Wappner rule? Suing over a vacation? I had some bitter breakups in my life, but to land in court over a buffet?

BC>Why ask Michele for prounciation? There is no umlaut.

  4. And by the way, how could you kill off the “tip of the week” after all production time and cost for the awesome intro and outro music?

  5. Another great podcast. Sooo happy Big Elvis is staying at FBC.

Happy Aniversary! Since the traditional gift for ten years is pottery and casino chips are made of clay…Shopping for each other should be easy this year:)

  6. I hit 2 10,000 points ($100.00 for the mathematically deprived) spins on the Big Wheel at a casino in Niagara Falls which is the biggest you cand do at 1 coin for 80 cents, The spin only applies to the spin winner but everyone can watch it.

Monopoly Big Event however, is much different. Everytime any of the 8 players hits a bonus on their game, everyone at the table participates in a bonus round. It is really cool, especially with a group of friends.

  7. Thanks for getting both of my calls on the air. Now that my fog is lifting a few other observations from my trip:

    – Michael Mina’s in the Bellagio was fabulous. One of the top 10 meals of my life.

    – On the strip near the City Center site and on the corner of the Aladin there were people playing Three Card Monte right on the sidewalk – and they had plenty of business. Unreal.

    – City Center is going up quick. A story a week since my visit in early January.

  8. In the realm of painfully obvious, the new Vegas show, “Paradise City,” produced by Ryan Seacrest, is more cringeworthy than “Against the Odds.” I actually cannot attest to that because I couldn’t get through the pilot’s credits before hitting “clear” on the TiVo. Ack.

The WoF Super Spins can be a money drain, but I’ve hit $500 twice…albeit at BC, RIP.

I have a reservation there for 7/7/07, so we’ll see what happens with that: that might be too much bad luck to bear.

  9. Does Tim literally spend his entire waking hours (except for the weekly podcast) watching every television show that could maybe possibly have some snippet of Vegas related dialog? Or has he invented an exclusive FHBM media bot which continuously scours all media sources for the mere mention of the words “Las Vegas?” Either way, I was very impressed that we were treated to a TV Court opening clip this week.

  10. Tip of the week:

To ensure you have another ten happy years of marriage: Limit the number of vegas trips you take sans wife. In the event that you do visit vegas without your wife, you should grant her (1) hour of expensive shoe shopping per night in Vegas. (Failure to sleep, or choosing to not get a room while in the city does not subtract from the total nights spent).

Also, for every publicly podcasted f-bomb directed at one’s husband, one must either grant (1) free night in Vegas without penalty of shoe shopping, or allow (1) life size image of Cardelini to be hung on the wall within the home. (Ten public f-bombs = (1) giant clown head in the garage)

  11. A little while ago I attended the implosion of the 9 story garage at Wynn. The sound and shock was rather intense. I have written a brief account and posted a few pictures on my blog, at http://royvegas.blogspot.com/

As well I would like to mention that earlier today (yesterday) nbc local news reported that when The Stardust comes down next week, there will be fireworks. That goes against the previous vibe that it was to be a nonevent, (whatever the hell a nonevent is).

  12. Another idea for a new BC name. How about Bill’s Saloon? It’s nice and simple and we can call it BS for short.

  13. Not really relevant to the actual podcast .. but something I noticed tonight which was certainly interesting.

Just finished watching episode four of Heroes, set in LV, of which a lot of the action took place in one particular Casino. Ohhh you say, was it Caesars … nope .. was it Wynn .. nope …

Ummm it was the Montecito ( with all the branding out on display ) so now we have fictional casino designed for one show popping up in others as well ?

  14. Darren,

I was talking to a co-worker before my last trip. She informed me that if she ever goes there she’s going to stay at the Montecito because she wants a room behind the waterfall.

Don’t go around telling people it’s fictional, not everybody will believe you. Heck it was on TV.

  15. I heard a rumor Harrah’s is going to buy out the Montecito; probably rebrand it as Ed’s Horseshoe, maybe build a giant ferris wheel in front of it.

Did you hear James Caan is leaving the show out of disgust over the lack of plot and Nicki Cox was asked to leave. I don’t think the show will be watchable without Ed kicking somebody’s ass each week. Nicki Cox is quite replacable.

  16. As an homage to Prince what about TAFKABC (The Area Formally Known As Barbary Coast) !!

  17. Nah.

How about Barbie Coasting. The casino could all be made out in various shades of pink.

The centre piece could be a big Pink Cadillac ( hence the coasting ). Casino could be filled with shoe shops, pet grooming stalls and clothes stores.

    One for the girls.

    Or maybe not.

  18. I’m replying way late to this (because, in fact, I was on my way to Vegas by way of Los Angeles when it was posted!)

I love the podcast — I listen religiously right before I go to Vegas, gorging on months of shows at a time. And then I refrain immediately upon returning because otherwise I just want to go all the time.

Anyway, I’m posting because you mentioned you are planning an anniversary dinner at the Wynn. Do yourself a favor and go to Alex!! It’s kind of outrageously priced, but the food and service were amazing. I think it’s one of the best 2 or 3 meals I’ve ever had, and I tend to spoil myself quite a bit. Hope to hear you tried it!
