  1. Hey guys. The wife and I were in Vegas around the same time as you two. Caught the Spamalot show (seats 2nd row, center – close enough to get spat upon), Beatles Love show at the Mirage, and saw Steve Wynn and his entourage at The Buffet. They were checking out the atrium area for possible renovations.

  2. Tim & Michele, shame on you. You missed the whole point of going to an “In n’ Out” burger place, namely that they cook the food to order (in real time). Unlike the MacDonald & Burger King method of microwaving previously cooked meat sitting in plastic bins, for who knows how long. This may be the last “major” fast food chain that serves freshly cooked food. What a concept!

Oh, yeah, use the drive-in next time. It’s so southern California, dude. And don’t forget to mention the white bathroom tile on the walls with red accents. So chic.

  3. Given the choices of fast food places, In-N-Out is definitely the best burger chain out around!

It certainly wouldn’t compare to an $18 dollar burger, though. And like most things, nothing lives up to the hype if you’re expectations are too high… just my 2 cents…

  4. It took an hour and thirty seconds to hear Michelle mention “Snackus Maximus” I was getting worried there the tradtion would be broken.

As for In-N-Out, the best thing actualy is ordering the off-the-menu options. Such as a 4×4 animal style….ah memories of back home.

  5. Stay away from the In-N-Out drive-through. As Sparky mentioned, everything is cooked to order, I have been stuck in that line for 20 minutes more than once.

I always stop at the Barstow In-N-Out (has to be one of the busiest in the country) on my drive from San Diego to Las Vegas. On one occasion, it looked busy, but I was pleased to here my number was only 10 spots from the current order. Great, until I realized it was 110 orders.

  6. Person A: So, where do you work?
    Person B: “Snackus Maximus.”
Person A: *scrunched-up face, followed by uncontrollable laughter*

I prefer Sonic to In ‘n Out myself. It’s sort of the same gimmick (50’s drive through inspired) but all they have is a drive through as well as some pull-up menus where the girls wheel your food out to you (the idea being you’d eat in your car), which used to be all they had but thankfully they added a normal drive-through so those of us who drive away don’t feel guilty about making the staff run around.

But really the menu is bigger and the food is better IMO. The fries at In N Out are particularly bad tasting, to me.

If you really want to blow that away, though, next time go to Burger Bar at Luxor (well, it’s in that connected mall, but it’s really close to Luxor.) I’m not sure if they can top the DB Burger (possibly if you paid them enough), but then they have little burger-inspired desserts which seem fit to include in a podcast.

  7. Oh yeah, Sonic. That’s where Paris & Nicole worked during the first season of “The Simple Life”.

…hmmm….wonder if anyone is going to chime in with a “White Castle” testimonial. Something about those “mini” burgers. lol.

  8. Our Gems Wild Tiles report will be coming in the next couple weeks.

Mmm… White Castles. I don’t have them often, but it’s always nice to know they’re nearby.

  9. Shh… not so loud. If Paul Bunyan reads that, he’ll start stomping around here, making lakes again.

  10. Michelle,

How do you go to Wynn and not mention Manolo Blahnik?!! I hope you went inside and purchased something. I stayed at a suite for this past Thanksgiving, and that is the most ultimate experience. I think you were in Vegas at the same time. We never left the hotel and stayed in the suite for an entire day. During that stay (3rd) I did buy a pair of Manolos.

I highly recommend SW Steakhouse, The Country Club (a lot of celebrity sightings in there), and Tableau. It is difficult to stay anywhere else now after staying there. I had to buy shares after my first stay there.

    “happy annivegasary!!” –Monica from Friends

  11. Hi Daisy–
I was only allowed one shoe mention during the show, and that had to go to the Zappos.com outlet because we hadn’t been there before. Manolos are a little out of my budget, but I did gaze at them longingly every time we walked by. There was a pair of teal patent slingbacks in the window that looked divine. (sigh)

  12. Aren’t In ‘n’ Out Burgers exactly the same as the Stake ‘n Shake burgers we have in the midwest? (Except that you stand up to order at In n Out whereas you sit down at Stake ‘n Shake?)

White Castles? Don’t they make those out of steamed goats?

I prefer a good old fashioned Duane Purvis All-American burger any day.

  13. Regarding divine shoes… even teal patent slingbacks cannot achieve divine status until they grace the feet of a goddess. Was Cardellini in the window wearing them?

  14. The ingredient list of White Castle’s sliders is highly classified. Although I believe ‘some sort of beef’ is appropriate.

My observations about gut bombs are:
-taste best when drunk or becoming drunk
-resturants located in neighborhoods that seem logical to visit when drunk
-they’re freakin’ toxic, recommend consumption only prior to outdoor activities
-best when the pickles are removed and tossed out the car window (I believe they’re biodegradable, just not edible)
    -available in 10 packs

  15. Minnesota legend, Kevin McHale. Best and biggest variety of low posts move in basketball history.

But a disaster as a GM.

  16. Great Podcast, and glad you had a wonderful time on this trip, as well as a great First Time Wynn (experience) although I am surprised Mike E. has not chastised you for staying on the “Ghetto” side….. 😉

My only thought, I am surprised you are not referring to B**** G******* H*** and S***** as “The Casino Formerly known as The Barbary Coast”

    David.

  17. Not suprised you had a nice stay at Wynn, a luxury property. The pool is exquisite, food excellent, nice sportsbar. I have also frequently stayed at MGM, which is also nice, but not the same class as Wynn

  18. Michele

Thanks for telling me about the zappos.com outlet. I’ll have to stop by on my next visit. whoo-hooo for H&M opening in Las Vegas, it is just getting better all the time. My nearest H&M is about 45 minutes away and I have to travel to another country to get to it.

  19. Folks, help me out here…Dean Johnson, host of “Hometime” on PBS=Minnesota Legend(Y/N)?

  20. I’d be happy to field this one.
Dean Johnson is not a Minnesota legend because he doesn’t do the work himself and does a stupid water softner commercial on local TV. I also don’t consider Garrison Keillor a legend; I’m not even convinced he’s from here.

    Minnesotans I consider legendary:
    -Bob Dylan
    -Charles Lindbergh
    -Kirby Puckett
-Kevin McHale (for his guest shots on Cheers)
    -Ralph Engelstad
    -Loni Anderson
    -Verne Gagne

  21. Engelstad was a hateful piece of shit. His only positive contribution to this world (unless you’re a North Dakota hockey fan) were the Imperial Palace cocktail waitress uniforms.

  22. OK, that’s quite an interesting little anti-Semitic website that I clicked on, there…

Mike, no legend status for Westerberg?

  23. I didn’t mean to imply that ‘legend’ always means good, just legendary. I’m sure if I had any sponsors, they would cancel their sponsorship.

The world is a better place without Engelstad. I’m only a fan of his casino and waitress uniforms, not his other beliefs.

Westerberg is not yet a legend; Prince probably is. Paul Bunyon is not a real person so if he’s a legend so is SpongeBob SquarePants.

Taking picture of cocktail waitresses and posting them on the internet never occured to me. Legendary idea!

  24. Sorry about the link, Tim. I did notice the web page but it was the best Google could do at the time.

Anyway your link to the obit didn’t work.

  25. Thanks for the clarification on Dean Johnson. I thought his ~8 “wives” or whatever they are might qualify him for legend status in Minnesota. But I have yet to see him build an ice fishing shack so perhaps that is what he needs to reach true legend status.

From someone not too familiar with the state, how about I nominate Harmon Killebrew instead?
